Avid football players made their way to the Paradise Sports Grounds on Sunday to witness the Newcastle Social Soccer League (NSSL) kick-off its pre-season tournament.
The tournament saw eight teams rising to the challenge, to determine who was the strongest on the field.
With the games played on a round robin basis, in Group A, Stella and Spartans clash, while Al-Ahly faced Emathekini.
In the Group B division, Sporting faced Amahlubi and Fairleigh United took on New Stars.
With two teams from each category taking part in the semi finals next Sunday, the teams went all out to secure a win.
Determined to clinch the victory, Stella FC secured the lead and are followed by Al-Ahly and Emathekini in the Group A division.
Group B sees Fairleigh UTD leading, with Amahlbi in second position and Sporting in third.
With Stella and Fairleigh UTD dominating the tournament, it is hard to determine who will take the coveted title of winner.
After the tournament ends on Sunday, the NSSL will officially start.
