Newcastle Mall Kestrels secures second victory in Premier League

Newcastle Mall Kestrels are flying high, after having clinched their second victory in the Premier League T20.

During the past weekend, the Kestrels travelled to Pietermartizburg, where the team faced Cosmos and the Standard Cricket Club.

The opening fixture saw Kestrels playing Cosmos.

Determined to win, Kestrels defeated Cosmos by 37 runs.

Kestrels debutante, Niresh Ramduth secured 39 runs from 28 deliveries, which helped his team achieve a score of 132 runs for six.

After the Kestrels secured the score, it was up to the bowlers to ensure their opposition did not overtake them.

Sandile Hlatswayo secured a Premier League hat-trick, three wickets in three balls, and helped restrict Cosmos to 95 runs for 9 in its 20 overs on the crease.

Following the match, Kestrels went to Linpark, where the team played against Standard Cricket Club.

Having won the toss, Newcastle decided to bat and found itself in a commanding position of 52 runs for 0 in the sixth over.

However, things changed quickly after Hussain Essop’s departure for 41 runs. KZN Inland players, Kyle Nipper and Gavin Hume, ripped the heart out of the Kestrels line-up

as they shared six wickets between them.

Chasing a total of 120 runs for victory was never going to be a problem for Standard, who achieved victory in the 16th over of their innings, for the loss of only two wickets.

The Newcastle Mall Kestrels has won two out of its first four matches and will return to Pietermaritzburg on Sunday, October 15, where they will face Zingari and Greytown.
