NKZN karateka train with JKA Sensei Johan le Grange
NJKA Sensei, Johan Swart said only JKA Karateka whose performance and attendance were above average throughout the year, were allowed to attend these special training sessions.
NKZN JKA karateka had the opportunity to train with 6th Dan, world class JKA karate instructor and SA JKA karate chief instructor and technical director, Johan le Grange on September 29 and 30.
NJKA Sensei, Johan Swart said only JKA Karateka whose performance and attendance were above average throughout the year, were allowed to attend these special training sessions.
“Although training on Friday was only an hour long, there was no shortage of sweat and tears. The intensive junior and senior classes comprised of movements beginning and ending with one’s centre or core, referred to as ‘hara’.”
Saturday morning’s two hour training session, which consisted of only junior black and adult brown and black belt karateka, followed-up on the previous night’s class, which emphasised that without the use of one’s “hara”, one cannot achieve the famous Bruce Lee one-inch punch.
“Working with elbows tucked into the sides and using only a distance of 15cm, the punch is extended forward while hip movement assists the core to generate power.”
Sensei Swart said by adding this technique at the end of a conventional punch increased strength and power, making the moment of impact so much more effective.
“This incapacitates your opponent with just one blow.”
During this time, some junior black and adult brown belt candidates were tested under strict grading standards in order to achieve black belt qualification.
He added the results would be released soon.
“It is always an honour and a privilege to train with a South African and World JKA Champion, and we thank Sensei Johan Le Grange for his continued support and guidance in the sport and art of JKA karate,” he concluded.
