The key to success for any non profit organisations is support.

Judging by the vast field of golfers entered into its annual golf day, the Rotary Club of Newcastle (Majuba) has no shortage of support from the community.

This was a bumper year for the organisation.

Rotarian, Pradeep Singh said while official figures were not yet determined, proceeds from Saturday’s better ball competition were in the region of R135 000.

“It was excellent. There was good response from the golfers and we were well-supported. Everyone enjoyed the meal afterwards as well.”

Although no golfer scored a hole in one to win the Smart car, Singh said raffle winners included Ronnie Acker (a welder inverter) and Ursula Singh (a whiskey hamper).

Rotary Majuba has since launched another raffle competition.

The prize is a gorgeous painting Singh described as ‘fine art’ – tickets are R100 and the draw takes place in January 2018.

Saturday’s weather also played ball, and after a hot day on the course, Willie Potgieter and Renier Terblanche claimed first place with 49 points.

Pierre Uys and Karel Swanepoel finished second on 48 points after a count out.

Third position went to Keith Count and Pieter Coetzee (48 points c/o) and in fourth was the team of Sudesh Singh and Vinod Karsan (47 points c/o).

Rounding off the top five was Pieter de Bruyn and Gordon Dowsett (47 points c/o).

Congratulations to these golfers on a successful day at the office, and well done to all who contributed to the day’s rousing success!
