Newcastle club athletes go the distance in Soweto
Newcastle City Athletics Club was well represented at the event.
Newcastle athletes ‘invaded’ Soweto last Sunday, to test their limits.
A group of 50 local competitors challenged gruelling heat and torturous climbs across distances of 10 kilometres, 21km and 42km.
Numerous water tables helped quench athletes’ thirst.
The route took competitors along vibrant Vilakazi Street, passing historically important sites including Regina Mundi church and the Hector Pieterson Museum.
Newcastle City Athletics Club was well represented at the event.
