ANGLING: NFWAA league competition heats up

The next fixture on the NFWAA calendar is the first round of the Knockout competition, at Sandford Islands on November 19.

Richgate Park was the venue for the second round of the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association League.

Conditions seemed ideal for a good day’s fishing, yet the dam proved again it was notorious for not giving its bounty up easily.

Most angers chose to fish in Zone Two.

With more clearings to fish from and less changes of losing a catch in the reeds, it was a stark comparison to Zone Four, which some took on.

The rewards for the brave were regular bites but far more snags.

Members of Chelmsford Angling Club seemed to have figured out the winning combination earlier than others, producing weighable catches throughout the day.

By the time other clubs caught up, Chelmsford was way ahead.

The club scored 41 points to claim top honours for the day, a much-improved effort from its fourth place finish in the first League.

This time around, defending champions, Itec Freespool finished second with 27 points.

In third place was Riverside AC with 22 points, followed by Docrats AC on 12 points and Endumeni AC on six points.

Both Freespool and Riverside claimed individual honours for the day.

Mervyn Budhoo of Freespool reeled in a 3.65 kilogramme carp as the heaviest of the day, while Vernen Naicker of Riverside reeled in a barbell of 2.99kg.

These performances have made the race for the league title more exciting.
