DIARISE: Marking the 41st Battlefields Marathon
The race is divided into three distances: the main 42.2 kilometre race begins at 6am, followed by both the 10km and 21.1km events, which start at 6.15am.
The historic Battlefields Marathon returns on March 3 this year.
In the 41st year of this iconic race, Konica Minolta South Africa (Newcastle) recently announced its sponsorship for the event.
The Battlefields Marathon was first run in 1977.
Earliest editions of the race were run on gravel roads and through farmlands, and boasted almost 500 determined athletes.
Today, the Battlefields Marathon is more focused on ambience and history.
The race route will take athletes on the Battlefields Route and Schuinshoogte, and past many historic sites in the Newcastle area including the Fort Amiel Museum.
It all begins at Hutten Park Primary School.
