GALLERY: Big boys and their model aircraft toys

With hours spent on building these aeronautical machines having the pleasure of flying them, was the highlight of the day.

Controlled only by a remote and fueled by pure enthusiasm from it’s creators, model aircrafts are not just a hobby.

The Newcastle Model Aircraft Club, played host to numerous aircraft clubs around the country last Saturday.

Favourable wind knots at the Newcastle Airport saw dozens of model aircrafts take to the skies.

While the Newcastle club consists of 12 members, they welcomed 11 other visitors to the event.

“Model aircraft enthusiasts looked forward to these sessions as the area is ideal. The model aircrafts are fun to fly,” said Chairman, John Harvey.

With hours spent on building these aeronautical machines and having the pleasure of flying them, was the highlight of the day.

Model aircraft fanatic, Johan Herbst from Benoni Radio Flyers Club, has been in the industry for more than four decades.

“I started this hobby in 1973 and I haven’t looked back since,” he said.
