Ladysmith brothers keep cricket captaincy in the family

Evidence of this is that at Weston's 2013 prize-giving, Michael received sports and practical awards, as well as the prize for second in Grade 11

As the first term cricket fixtures drew to a close at Weston Agricultural College, Mooi River, and with the knowledge that matrics do not play in the fourth term due to a very short period back at school before the national senior certificate exams, it was time for Weston’s first team captain to pass on the captaincy.

Captain Michael Bauer, an accomplished cricketer, passed over the captaincy to an equally-talented player in the form of his younger brother, Matthew, who is in Grade 10. The Bauer boys come from Ladysmith.

Michael has played 100 games for Weston’s first cricket team. In addition to being a gifted sportsman who also plays first team rugby and soccer, Michael is the school’s 2014 head boy. He has proved to be an exceptional all-rounder. Evidence of this is that at Weston’s 2013 prize-giving, Michael received sports and practical awards, as well as the prize for second in Grade 11. Both he and Matthew carried off the coveted ‘Best Sportsman’ prizes in their respective grades.
