Pounding the pedals in Ladysmith Cycle Challenge
The event consisted of four different races - 18km, 40km, 80km and 100km

Soldiers Way on Sunday morning saw the start of the annual Ladysmith Cycle Challenge, held by Siegetown Wheelers cycling club. The event consisted of four races, namely 18km, 40km, 80km and the mammoth 100km race.
Warm and sunny weather welcomed the cyclists, and participants of various age groups were giddy with anticipation before the start. The 100km cyclists faced the challenge of heading to De Beer’s Pass, which was the pivotal point of the event.
Event organiser Andre Beukes was impressed with the number of race participants, as well as their performances on the day.
“It all went off very well and it was great seeing the 100km cyclists finishing their race,” he said.
He added that he was thankful for the presence of the many RTI officers on the route, as their efforts “made a big difference”.
Well done to all the cyclists for being brilliant Ladysmith Cycle Challenge conquerors!
