Development of the youth shows growth

“Our objectives was to promote soccer development and skills in the youth of this country,”

Young, old, men and women, the general notion a person gets when they see a soccer ball, is to kick it.

With this in mind, Operations Mobilisation (OM) South Africa put together the Amajuba Municipal Region Under 13 Boys Soccer Tournament.

They partnered with the Department of Education to include all schools from around the district.

Provincial Team Leader of OM SA, Johan Potgieter, thanked Ilifa Africa Engineers for also assisting in sponsoring the event.

“Our objectives was to promote soccer development and skills in the youth of this country,” he explained.

The objectives were not only directed to address the physical training and exercise gained from training, but also addressed the social needs of the children.

On Friday the finals were played out at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds.

Eight teams from around the district made this round, and three of those eight teams were from Newcastle, namely: Amajuba Combined school, Drakensberg Primary and Hope Primary.

Unfortunately these teams fell out of the competition during the first round, but having made it to the final draw, was proof of the children’s potential.

The mental strategy on the field, strength and the skills proved the youth participating in the tournament had loads of talent.

Mr Potgieter encouraged parents to become involved in their children’s sports development.
