Pass, set-spike!

The routine of a chemistry-driven volleyball team is excellent. Their determination, understanding and cohesion are astonishing.

Sports lovers were treated to an exciting volleyball tournament over the weekend at Paradise Sports Grounds.

Although many teams pulled their teams at the last minute, this did not dishearten organiser, Sandile Mabaso, and he ensured the remaining three teams enjoyed the Moonlight College Tournament.

Team 150, Predators, and Spook and Diesel stormed the courts with a passion and even as the teams warmed up, their mere presence shook the court and drew many spectators.

Team 150 faced off against Predators in the first game. The battle they waged was entertaining in all regards, and neither team was willing to let a point out of their grasp without a fight.

Team 150’s major flaw lay in a lack of communication. The team has some talented players, but the lack of communication meant this talent was not exploited properly.

The result was simple as the chemistry-driven Predators took advantage of every mistake made by their opponents, crashing points around Team 150 with ease.

The tournament progressed with a number of group games played between the teams, allowing each team to play against the other once.

In the finals, Spook and Diesel progressed to face the strong Predators’ side in a five-set mathcup.

The game was well fought between both sides. Predators put its opponents under pressure from the get-go, but Spook and Diesel fought back valiantly, never letting their opponents win more than two points at a time.

Spook and Diesel only recently took up the sport, and it would seem this lack of experience was the team’s downfall as they eventually collapsed to the high flying Predators outfit.

Predators were crowned champions after this win, and the team is already excited at the prospect of defending this trophy in next year’s tournament, as the organisers hope to make this an annual event of the sporting calender.

“It was an excellent tournament with all the guys really working hard to win. I would like to thank our sponsors Moonlight College and Tommy’s Auto Parts for helping us put this all together,” concluded Mr Mabaso.
