Fighting fit for karate and MMA

“With karate, I enjoy the different aspects involved. It is not just hitting, kicking and blocking. It is an overall combat sport,”

Davy Chuang has been involved in karate since his childhood days.

Over the past year and a half he has applied himself to both karate and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

“With karate, I enjoy the different aspects involved. It is not just hitting, kicking and blocking. It is an overall combat sport,” he said.

Describing how karate involved groundwork as well, Davy said it was a sport one would always learn from.

“It isn’t something that you do for three years and then get bored. You can do it every day until the day you die. It keeps you fit and you always learn from it, but you need to practise.”

Explaining his transition from karate to MMA, Dave said: “I enjoy fighting. Whether winning or losing, that feeling you get when you climb into the cage is amazing. I enjoy smacking someone just as much as I like being smacked.”

One of the benefits of being involved in both karate and MMA is the ability to defend oneself in times of an emergency. “It is like a weapon. You should rather know it and not need it and not have it and need it. Self-defence is important for yourself and for those you love,” he concluded.
