APL Transnat Kock Out casts off

Breakwaters Angling Club wishes to thank all its patrons, sponsors, members and officials for making our awards function such a great success. It was indeed a social event of the year.

The first round of the Transnat Knock-out competitions was held at Richgate Park on November 16. The Paper House team was up against a determined Team Streetwire line-up while NFH Superstars took on the Fishing People.

Although the anglers could fish in any zone, the choice of area was critical as each member settled for their favourite spot.

The four teams in the APL, although small in numbers, produced outstanding catches. It was a time for the teams still smarting from their defeat in the first round of the Vees Micro Enterprises League to salvage some lost pride and to bounce back with a vengeance.

Team Streetwire had to succumb to a rampant Paper House team, scoring 62 points to 29 points, the Fishing People proved to be too good for the opponents, NFH Super Stars beating them 51 points to 34 points. Paper House will take on the Fishing People in the final while in the play offs Team Streetwire will be up against NFH Super Stars.

The top three anglers of the day, much to the surprise of most members, were Harry Singh (Fishing People) who seems to have struck form by scoring 16 points, followed by Naesh Rajkumar (NH Super Stars) and Ossie Oosthuizen (Paper House) on 12 points each. The good catches certainly made up for the blistery conditions the anglers had to endure.

The close and intense competition within APL sees Terrence Chetty leading the log on 18 points, hotly pursued by Harry Singh (16 points); Monty Slabbert and Ashvir Ramnarian on 15 points, while the rest of the pack are breathing down their necks in search of the prestigious title of “angler of the year”. The title of “senior of year” has pitted Whity Maharaj (11 points), Dan Govender (7 points) and Sam Pandoy against each other as they battle for honours.

The next competition will be League 2 at Richgate Park where the keen rivalry is set to continue as members challenge for the various titles, trophies and incentives up for grabs.
