Rolling on to the mat

Last weekend 11 players participated in the monthly carpet bowls socials with players enjoying themselves both on and off the mat.

It would seem that the community is backing the proposed Carpet Bowls League and this format of bowls is growing in popularity.

Last weekend 11 players participated in the monthly carpet bowls socials with players enjoying themselves both on and off the mat.

Those present were credited with showing good camaraderie and enjoying the good fellowship the ‘smaller’ version of the game offers.

The finals of the weekend’s play was decided during a very exciting tie-breaker match after two sessions of seven ends tied the teams.

Taking the game and the evening, was Johanna Le Roux, Trevor Smale, Rene van de Westhuizen and Jurie van Dyk.

The runners-up were Nesta Viljoen, Ina Voster, Lindie van Dyk, and the 14-year old Keagen Bonnet.

Keagen showed immense talent proving that youth can have a blast and the skill to take on their seniors in a game that is often perceived as a senior sport.

The Century Place Carpet Bowls club members in fact encourage younger players to join.

“We are willing to introduce them to the game, and guide them along,” said club member Trevor Smale.

The club offered a special thanks to Ina Vorster for her catering during the event.
