Spinning your head right round

Being the last race of the year for oval track fans, it was a huge affair. Almost all local racers were participating and the crowd watched with bated breath as the racers sped around the track.

There are not many noises that can be categorised as beautiful and menacing at the same time. The sound of a rumbling engine is one and it filled the air on Saturday night.

Being the last race of the year for oval track fans, it was a huge affair. Almost all local racers were participating and the crowd watched with bated breath as the racers sped around the track.

In the tin tops division, local oval track great, Boet Buys claimed the first pirze, with Riekie Snyman and Flip Gericke following in second and third place respectively.

Tiaan Buys once again topped the rookie division as he continued to build on his pedigree and skill in the sport.

It was a close contest with the 1600s but JP Bruin managed to pull of an impressive win, fending off some excellent driving from Johann de Jager and Anthony van de Merwe.

Stepping it up a notch was the 1660s class with racers fighting hard to retain positions. Taking the turns well and pushing hard were Pieter Bester (Jnr), Andre Greyvenstein and Imraan Ameer, with all three battling for top honours.

If there were a few moor laps, the tale could have possibly changed. But in the end Pieter claimed victory, Andre claimed second position, and third place went to Imraan.

The Greyvensteins wanted more victory to their names, and Francois Greyvenstein, managed an excellent win in the 2- litre class.

Hendrik van der Merwe and Gideon Hand were left fighting for second and third place after Gert Gericke cruised to victory in the Hot Rods class.
