When the idea of launching the Angling Professional League was mooted, officials and members never anticipated the league would generate such great interest and intense competition.

This is evident judging by the results of each round of the competitions held so far as the orange and purple rotated from angler to angler.

The Vees Micro Enterprises second round league took place on November 30 at Richgate Park.

Each of the four competing teams was determined to top the log, but it was the mighty Paper House that emerged victorious as the team’s twelve members amassed 117 points, followed by Team Streetwire on 47 points, Fishing People on 45 points and NFH Superstars on 42 points.

The angler who excelled was Vicky Bhooli (Paper House) who scored a massive 25 points, followed by Ossie Oosthuizen (Paper House) with 17 points and Kaveer Singh (NFH Superstars) on 16 points.

The league standing sees both Paper House and Team Streetwire tied on 14 points while the Fishing People and NFH Superstars are tied on 6 points each.

Yacoob Patel produced the most incredible catch when he hooked a bass of 3,020kg in Zone 4 on a carp trace using a mealie pip. According to the record books, this is the second bass that was caught during a competitive fixture since 1991.

Vicky Bhooli earned the honour of wearing the both the orange and purple caps as he top scored on the day and leads the race for title of “angler of the year” on 38 points. He is hotly pursued by Ossie Oosthuizen on 31 points and Terrence Chetty on 29 points.

With many competitions to follow, the early title contenders include Yacoob Patel with the heaviest scaled fish weighing in at 3,020kg; Faizel Seedat with heaviest non scaled fish that weighed 3,690kg; Shakeel Sheik with the heaviest scaly of 650 grams; Vicky Bhooli the highest points scorer with 25 points; Shane Mangaroo who was crowned Champion of Champions; Harry Singh the Knock-out Champion, followed by Naesh Rajkumar and Ossie Oosthuizen on 12 points each; Vicky Bhooli the League Champion on 27 points, followed by Kaveer Singh on 21 and Ossie Oosthuizen on 19 points; Avi Buduram the Junior Angler of Year on two points; Whity Maharaj the Senior Angler of the Year on 20 points, followed by Dan Govender on 15 points, while Vicky Bhooli leads the pack with the most fish caught with 24 fish, followed by Ossie Oosthuizen and Kaveer Singh on 16 each.

Competition for the internal singles and doubles title is reaching the business end of the competition, as there are several contenders for the title.

The next competition will be the Vees Micro Enterprises League 3 to be held at Sandford on 18 January 2015 where the team will be going out all guns blazing in their bid to seek glory.
