Rains bring safari like pleasure to course

The competition was hosted at Blackrock Newcastle Golf Club with the pristine fairways and greens being the perfect opportunity for golfers to really shine in the competitive environment.

With the seasonal rains beating down in town, the golf course has seen a natural flourish and improvement to its fairways and greens, resulting in a much more competitive environment as the ground hugs the ball, minimising the chances of a bad shot ruining the hole for a player.

On Saturday, the course was abuzz with avid golfers participating in the Blackrock Newcastle Golf Club Sponsored IPS. The soundtrack of the course was that of silence punctuated by the call of a bird and the satisfying ‘thwack’ of the perfect shot. It truly was a perfect day for golf, with the afternoon rains coming once most golfers had already retired to the clubhouse.

Golfers who gave it their all during the O’Safari golfing competition held last month were rewarded on Saturday night, when the annual prize giving was conducted.

The O’Safari champion for 2014 was Pierre Uys, who has undoubtedly, played exceptional golf throughout the year, often trumping many of golfers on the course.

Johan Jonker was also awarded a prize for receiving the title, ‘Krom Mannetjie’.
