Angling Professional League reels in New Year

Officials are currently laying out the blueprint for the new season, which would see the return of Breakwaters, Stillwaters and other new affiliates for the season 2015/2016.

After a brief break during the festive season, it is back to the water’s edge for members of the Angling Professional League (APL).

The season will cast off with the Vees Micro Enterprises League 3 at Sandford on January 18.

The tussle for the league title is dominated by Paper House and Team Streetwire, who are tied at 14 points apiece. However, both the Fishing People and NFH Superstars could upset the apple cart with a win by either team, as it would throw the league competition wide open.

With many competitions to follow, the early title contenders include Yacoob Patel with the heaviest scaled fish weighing in at 3,020kg, Faizel Seedat with the heaviest non scaled fish weighing at 3,690kg, and Shakeel Sheik with the heaviest scaly of 650 grams.

Other contenders include Vicky Bhooli the highest points scorer, Shane Mangaroo who was crowned Champion of Champions, Harry Singh the Knock-Out Champion, Naesh Rajkumar, Ossie Oosthuizen, Vicky Bhooli the League Champion, Kaveer Singh, Avi Buduram the Junior Angler of Year, Whity Maharaj the Senior Angler of the Year and Dan Govender. Competition for the internal singles and doubles title is reaching a climax, as there are several contenders for the title.

The top three anglers from each competition are awarded outright trophies, while the winning team receives prize money of R500 per competition.

There are various incentives for the “Angler of the Year”, including a weekend break. There are also incentives for anglers who catch carp weighing more than 4kg, Barbel of 10kg, and more.
