Great turnout for NKZN JKA Championships
Not only was this competition a chance for the karateka to prove what they could do, the championships also served as the trials for the National Championships which will be held at the Standard Bank Arena on June 5 and 6. All those karateka who placed first, second or third at the championships will be representing NKZN at the SA’s which will also serve as the trials for the Africa Cup later this year.
THE NORTHERN Kwa-Zulu Natal JKA championships was held on March 14 at the Farmers’ Hall in Newcastle.
With over 200 entries coming from the affiliated clubs of Dundee, Hluhluwe, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Paul Pietersburg, Piet Retief, Pongola, Volksrust and Vryheid, the tournament packed a heavy punch with participants competing in nail-biting kata and action-filled kumite.
For some this was a first-time experience while for others it was a chance to redeem themselves or fight for their title. Competitors participated in different divisions ranging from Novice (beginner) to Elite (Black Belt) categories in different age groups from as young as five years and as old as forty.

We want to thank all the karate-ka who competed and to all the parents who helped as table officials and came to support their children. Without you this tournament would not be possible.
Congratulations to the Vryheid JKA Karate team who brought home 40 medals in total.
