Aster claims cricket victory

Aster was crowned winners of the tournament after climbing their way to the top to meet DRC in the final

With beautiful weather and not a drop of rain in sight, the Umtshezi Cricket Association’s Round Robin Cricket Tournament was played during the weekend. Aster was crowned winners of the tournament after climbing their way to the top to meet DRC in the final. The team and its players also received various other awards for their performance during the other league matches.

Although this year’s tournament ended on a disappointing note, after one of the team’s walked off the fields during the final, the organisers are hailing it a success. The association has commended the players on their sportsmanship and high calibre of cricket played throughout the tournament.

Umtshezi Cricket Association is reserving their comments about the behaviour of DRC during the final against Aster, which resulted in DRC walking off the field and leaving the tournament. The association will be convening a disciplinary hearing, said a representative from the association, Shrey Harrynarain.

He added that on the flip side, the highlight from the tournament was the spot cash donations pledged by supporters, which will be donated to the Estcourt Hospice Association. “This tournament signals the end of the cricket season, we would like to thank all who assisted in making the tournament a success as well as the league. A special thanks to our sponsors, we greatly appreciate your support,” said Mr Harrynarain.
