The new league format and points system kept all clubs competitive and jostling for top positions even at the final hurdle of the season.

The last league was fished at Sanford Islands and all clubs were well represented and eager to end the season on a high.

Riverside Angling Club from Dundee fished against Glencoe Angling club in zones A and B. Riverside was the favourite to win this fixture and bag all 3 points. However, the underdogs from Glencoe surprised all with a thrilling performance to beat Riverside 36 points to 31, and proved just how much the club had improved.

Docrats and Challengers Angling clubs fished against each other in C zone.

Challengers have been experiencing its worst season since the club’s inception and were hoping to record the club’s first victory of the season.

Docrats who were one of the favourites to win the league title were in an unforgiving mood and thrashed Challengers by 69 points to 31. This victory ensured the security of Docrats’ second position on the league log table.

The final fixture saw Dannhauser Angling Club come up against Itec Free Spool in E zone.

Both teams were well represented and Dannhauser was hoping to hand Itec Free Spool their first defeat of the season.

Itec Free Spool spared no chances and out-fished their opponents by 131 points to 24, thereby maintaining the club’s unbeaten run this season and capturing its first league title.

Marcus Davids of Itec Free Spool caught the heaviest carp of the day and Vish Pillay of Riverside the heaviest barbel. The winning weights were 3.660kg and 3.885kg respectively.

The heaviest barbel for the season was a fine 12.910kg specimen caught by S Tedpaul of Docrats during League 3.

M Irfaan from Dannhauser caught the heaviest carp of the season, during round four of the season and weighed it in at 3.965kg .

The executive committee of the NFWAA thanked all its affiliates for their contributions towards a successful season.
