A day full of fun and rivalry

The weather could not have been better and the outdoor activities enjoyed by all.

The MSC Agencies and Harvey World Travel Day brought together a large gathering of golfers, bowlers, clients, staff, family and friends at the Ladysmith Country Club on Saturday 30th May to enjoy the sport, the fun, the fellowship, a superb dinner and the most amazing social spirit and camaraderie for this flagship of sponsored corporate days. The arrangements for this event were faultless and here we must give credit to Magda, Cassidy, Belinda and all the staff of MSC Agencies and Harvey World Travel who arrived very early, en block, to ensure that all were made very welcome and part of the day’s sport and fun.

The weather could not have been better and the outdoor activities were enjoyed by all.

A full field of golfers, with tee-off times through to 13h00 to accommodate all, with the last four-ball just making it to the final putt before it was too dark to play.

The bowls “tabs-in” saw 24 bowlers take part in a very social atmosphere, playing two games of 10 ends.
The front of the clubhouse was very festive with many flags, umbrellas, gazebos, jumping castle, coffee bar, skottel braais and many people in attendance which reflected a carnival of events.

The golf competition was played as a 4BBB Stableford event and the outright winners were Riaan du Plessis and Gerhard van der Westhuizen with 48 points followed closely by Willie Erasmus and C. Munro with 47 points.

A count-out on 46 points separated the next three finishers with Wayne Bentley and Ryan Seele taking third, Kim Thomas and Aurette Boardman fourth and Bruce Rohrs and Pier Turconi fifth.
Nearest the Pin winners were Charles Elworthy, Dries Slabbert, Vernon Naidoo and S. McTaggert. Longest Drive winner was Gerhard van der Westhuizen, maybe because Carla was out of action with a broken arm.

Seven golfers carded 2-clubs, but mention must be made of Willie Erasmus who carded no fewer than three.

The Bowls competition was very tight, with only the slightest margin of shot-difference separating the top two trips teams.
Only two teams managed to win both games to score 4 points, but it was the team of Peter Landsdale, Steve Dixon and Stuart Hanlon with a +16 shot advantage that pipped Ron Richmond, Charmaine van der Merwe and Sarel van der Merwe with a +14 shot advantage. The “sportsman’s prize” went to Bennie Malan, Greg MacKenzie and Jaco Fick.

The sponsored supper that followed the prizegiving was enjoyed by the many sports participants, staff members and guests which ended off a fantastic day’s events. Thanks to Magda, Cassidy and all the staff of MSC Agencies and Harvey World Travel for a truly wonderful sponsorship and for their impeccable arrangements.

The first round of the Mortimer Toyota League was played on Sunday morning, with an early and quite chilly start to the day’s golf.
This being the first of 10 round-robin rounds some teams took advantage to make a early break and be ahead of the chasing pack. Team Golf, the 2014 league champions, raced into the lead with 7 points followed by The Bullets and Rough Riders with 6 points each. Please note that the second round, originally scheduled for Sunday 7th June, has been postponed until further notice, due to many of the golfers being unavailable.

This Saturday is the “Italian Day” with a 4BBB Stab golf competition, a “tabs-in” social bowls event to be rounded off with a porchetta supper and then the final of the UEFA Cup-final match between Juventus and Barcelona later on in the evening.

Saturday 13th is the Durnford’s Lodge Monthly Mug and on Tuesday 16th (Youth Day) is the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce Day.

Please diarise these dates and make sure your entries are in on time for these sponsored sporting events.

The May 100 Club was drawn on Friday evening and this month was “Craig” month with Craig Booth winning the big one and Craig Anderson the second prize.
