Vryheid Rugby Club – First team a force to be reckoned with
"The Forwards stuck to their guns, dominating rucks, mauls, lineouts and scrums." said Head Coach, Rich Verster proudly of his squad, who despite recent negativity and unwarranted criticism from dubious sources, have come out on top and continue to fly the Vryheid flag proudly, marching from strength to strength since Verster took the wheel at Vryheid Rugby Club.
VRYHEID Rugby Club travelled to Newcastle to face the Highlanders on Saturday, June 13.
Despite their scintillating season thus far, Vryheid’s second team struggled against the hosts, who, having the homeground advantage, managed to defeat the men in maroon, limiting them to a mere two tries on the scoreboard at the close of play. Fullback, Johannes Barnard, was able to place one conversion and three penalties, while Left Centre, Devin Aspden and Number eight, Juan Liebenburg, scored one try each. The Highlanders stole the victory with 41 on the board to the visiting team’s 21.

Following the second team’s disappointing defeat at the hands of the hosts, Vryheid Rugby Club’s first team took to the field against reputable rivals, the Highlanders.
Hooker, Tiaan Kruger, who was injured early in the match, was replaced by former Cheetahs player and current Head Coach of Vryheid Rugby Club, Rich Verster. Tries were scored by Right Centre, Mornè Ellis (1) and Scrum half and Man of the Match for the Backline, Dylan Herbst (3). Fly half, Johan Herbst, placed one conversion and one penalty.
