Angling season ready to cast off
The new season casts off on August 1 and continues until July 31 next year, and new anglers keen to join the APL will be assigned to their team of choice depending on space.

The success of its inaugural season has compelled the Angling Professional League (APL) to cast its line out further.
However, the positive was not without its negative.
APL management was disappointed their innovative concepts for competitive angling were seemingly being duplicated by another group.
Nevertheless, the league can reflect on a memorable season.
At a prize giving event, anglers who had excelled were rewarded floating trophies and significant cash prizes.
Monty Slabbert and his wife, Sonia reaped the benefits of his outstanding talent.
The couple enjoyed a weekend break at The Nest in the Drakensberg, a just reward for his title of ‘Angler of the Year’, costing the APL a shade over R4 000.
Yet it was not only in terms of prizes the APL broached new territory.
The introduction of the orange and purple cap system provided physical representation for the best anglers, and the APL promised more concepts would be introduced in the coming season.
Clubs, both old and new, can anticipate more ‘reeling’ action.
Two of the Natal Freshwater Angling Association’s former top clubs, Breakwaters and Challengers have joined the refurbished Stillwaters in a bid for the top titles.
Thus, the APL said competition would certainly be as intense as in days past.
The new season casts off on August 1 and continues until July 31 next year, and new anglers keen to join the APL will be assigned to their team of choice depending on space.
Members will also be permitted to fish at Sandford and Richgate Park, as registered affiliates.
