Burnt End

The Spring FedAuto Business League is drawing to a close.

Only one round of league play is left, on November 26, before the finals between the two sections, to be played on December 3.

The leaders in Section 1 are the only unbeaten teams, Hope High School (12+84) and Pensioners (12+48), followed by King Cool (10+65), Dozy Dudes (8+49) and Putt Putts (8+45).

Section 2 is also closely contested, with only one point separating the top six teams: Mag Repairs (10+29), Melo’s (9+37), The Flintstones (9+27), Eazie (9+24) and Non Alcoholics (9+24).

Teams will therefore be jostling for a higher position before next week’s final game.

The club Pro10 two-bowl pairs competition was played last weekend, with a pleasing entry of 16 teams divided into two sections.

Eight teams in each section played against each other, with seven games thus played to determine the winners of each section.

Section 1 was comfortably won by Sid Price and Lou Roux (432 points), who both hit a rich vein of form to remain unbeaten throughout the two days of play.

They were closely followed by Alice and Ron Howe (381) and Douglas and Michelle Steele (363).

Section 2 was more closely contested, with only 17 points separating the top three teams in the end.

The consistent play of Eric Holm and Simon Ball saw them through as the section winners (400), followed by John and Trevor Douthwaite and Samantha and Stephen Shaw (383).

The two winning teams now qualify to play in the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls playoffs, to be played in the new year.

Newcastle BC hosts the KZNCB Emerging Masters singles competition this weekend, with selected 12 men and 12 ladies from throughout the District participating.

Winners of each section then qualify to participate in the prestigious Masters competition, which will also be hosted by Newcastle BC in January next year.

Members are requested to volunteer their services as markers during the weekend.
