Celebrating a maiden cricket win

The year 2015 marked a milestone for ArcelorMittal Cricket Club.
Last Wednesday, the newly-reformed club faced Lennoxton Royal Challengers in a night league match, going into the encounter as the definite underdogs.
But as the saying goes, it’s about the size of the dog in the fight.
A reincarnation of teams gone by, ArcelorMittal won the toss and boldly elected to chase Challengers’ target.
“The captain’s faith was rewarded with a brilliant bowling performance from Theo Bornman, who took five wickets for 28 runs,” said team captain, Shivesh Singh.
Theo was backed up by Waylon Kok, taking two for 23 to restrict Challenges to 100 all out.
Challengers’ regular power players failed to weather the ArcelorMittal attack, losing momentum as they lost wickets.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for the underdog side.
“Our reply started badly, losing two wickets in the first over.”
Figures of four for 24 by Challengers’ Udesh initially found ArcelorMittal on the defensive.
A clever cameo from Johan Sweeney saved the day, aided by useful knocks from Shivesh and Waylon, who held his nerve to take ArcelorMittal to victory with four overs to spare.
“This was the first victory for the club, and players were jubilant.”
While both teams enjoyed a fine game, the focus again shifted to the poor condition of the pitch and outfield at the Paradise Grounds.
Shivesh said an amazing and close-fought game resulted in low scores as a result.
“Good shots were stopping on the field as the grass wasn’t cut, and there are patches and bobbles which meant balls were popping up and endangering fielders. On a good pitch, both teams would have scored 50 runs more, which adds to spectator value,” he concluded.
