Kyle has made it his life's mission to race at a professional level.
Off-road motorcycling is more than a mere hobby for Kyle Flanagan – it is a way of life.
“I have been riding for as long as I can remember, but it was since I was nine years old that I started racing.”
Kyle has made it his life’s mission to race at a professional level.
In December, Kyle participated in the Roof of Africa, Lesotho, a challenging endurance race for the most avid of off-road racer.
“There are three divisions, which are the Bronze, Silver and Gold classes. I took part in the Gold class which is the hardest and I placed 15th,” Kyle said.
In the Gold class, competitors take in a time trial of 60 kilometres on day one, 130km on day two and 127km on day three.
“It is an extreme race; the competition is tough and alongside the altitude and heat, it is a challenging race. For me personally, the heat was the toughest part.”
Kyle is determined to take part again in the daunting race this coming December.
“I will be aiming for the top 10 when I compete again.”
Although he had to be satisfied with the 15th place in the Roof of Africa, Kyle has a tremendous track record in the off-road racing scene. He took part in the Regional U/21 Hare Scramble, U/21 Enduro Championships and the Regional Non Senior Circuit, where he secured top spots.
“I also did the Powasol Xtreme Series, where I was the champion,” he said.
With 2016 in full swing, Kyle is gearing up to take his career in off-road racing to new heights.
“This is the year where I go pro. I am super excited about it. Not only will I be paid to race but I will be able to focus 100 per cent on my racing,” Kyle enthused.
As he prepares for the future, Kyle will be able to pursue his dreams, assisted by Fedauto Ford, that sponsored him a Ford Transit Connect, on Monday, January 11.
“Kyle is an up-and-coming rider, with a big riding community in our area. We felt he was the right guy and wish him all the best,” said Justin Ryan from Fedauto Ford.
Now able to transport his trusty Sherco 250 SER from racing event to racing event, Kyle is sure to set the motorcycling world on fire.
With hopes of excelling at his profession, Kyle has encouraged other off-road enthusiasts to pursue their dreams.
“You should focus on your racing, because if you want it badly enough, you will make it happen,” Kyle concluded.
