Hitting for a six to success

Three teenagers have proved their worth on the cricket pitch during December 2015.

Matthew Ponter participated in the KwaZulu-Natal Inland games in Secunda and was selected to join the U/11 team.

The second player who has brought sporting pride to Newcastle, was Sanele Nkosi, who represented KZN schools in Pretoria during the National School Games. Although he only started playing cricket in 2013, he was selected to the U/14 team.

Jordan Kinsley was selected to to be a part of the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. With the hope of becoming a professional cricket player, the opportunity at the centre will be bringing him one step closer to his dream.

Amos Cassimjee, Jordan’s and Matthew’s coach, said he was extremely proud of the boys’ achievements.

Sandile Hlatshwayo, a development officer from oSizweni who had been assisting Sanele, said he was just as proud.

“I have worked hard to get youngsters passionate about cricket and Sanele’s achievement shows his love for the sport. As an ex-KZN Inland player, I am looking forward to helping more boys and contributing to the development of cricket,” he said.

Mthembu Senzeni, president of Amajuba Cricket Association, said he was also chuffed with the achievements.

“They did exceptionally well, but it was not as good as I had would have wanted it. There are still obstacles we are facing locally, such as transport for the boys to get to practice, lack of equipment and training facilities. If we can improve this, we could have more players achieving their goals,” he concluded.
