Focused on finishing first
With less than a month to give it his all, Mr Pine gears up to participate in the SA National Championships, scheduled to take place mid-February.

Breaking away from the pack, local cycling veteran, Gwyn Pine’s career is far from over.
During the course of 2015, he blazed through time trials, championship races, and countless kilometres, solidifying his appellation as the best of the best.
“I won a number of races throughout the country and achieved my South African Colours for the fourth consecutive year, during the time trial at the National Championships,” he explained.
After a year of long distances and intense training, Mr Pine was awarded his KwaZulu-Natal Colours for the 12th consecutive year.
“I also won the KZN league for 2015, which was a great end to a successful year,” he added.
The 52-year-old recently competed in the KZN Cycling Championships, which took place on the technically challenging routes in the Pietermaritzburg area.
“I won the time trial, with the fastest lap times. I also walked away victorious with the fastest time in the 24km time trial. I think I proved I am ready for another great year.”
The following day, Mr Pine said he felt the strain of the previous day’s efforts. However, he still managed to finish in fourth place, just a few seconds behind the podium winners.
On January 31, he took part in the Checkers and The Pines Cycle Challenge, going up against an ex-professional rider.
“He won many races in his day, so I was chuffed to have beaten him in the sprint to the finish line,” said Mr Pine.

He is also determined to pull off a win at the World Cycling Championships, which will take place in Australia in September.
“After finishing just 12 seconds behind the podium winners just over a year ago, I am training hard, and remain focused on taking my career to the next level,” concluded Mr Pine.
