Anglers play catch and release

The Angler of the Day was undoubtedly Shane Mangaroo.

The VME League Five was hosted on February 21 at Richgate Park.

At this juncture, the Breakwaters team hoped to secure victory, clearly expressing its intent by fielding a strong contingent of anglers.

Perseverance and consistency paid dividends, as the team amassed 93 points, while sister team, Stillwaters caused a major upset, beating the fancied Challengers by 43 points to 38.

However, the log standings remain unchanged.

In pole position is Breakwaters on 28 points, with Challengers in second on 20 points and Stillwaters rounding it off on 12.

The Angler of the Day was undoubtedly Shane Mangaroo.

Earning 14 points in total, Shane walked away with the prized orange cap, R200 in cash and an outright trophy.

Overall, Shane is second to one.

Kaveer Singh (Breakwaters) retained the orange cap with 103 points, and remains a good distance clear of Shane and Eksaan Mia (63 points).

The top five anglers for Breakwaters and Stillwaters are:

Orange cap holder, Shane Mangaroo led with 14 points, Anil Boodhoo received 10 points and Kidd Rampersadh had nine in total.

Kaveer Singh also earned nine, while Suvyn Boodhoo ended with 8.

Title contenders within the Angling Professional League include Terrence Chetty for the heaviest scaled fish (3,65kg) and heaviest non-scaled fish (9kg), Ethan Burger for his rare kurper catch, Kameshin Govender for Junior Angler of the Year, Tasha Boodhoo for Lady Angler of the Year, Dan Govender for Senior Angler of the Year, and Kaveer Singh for Angler of the Year.

Terrence is also very much in the running for the Breakwaters and Stillwaters internal titles.

Other internal contenders are: Vicky Bhooli for the heaviest scaly, Uthveer Buduram for the heaviest eel, Ethan Burger for Junior Angler of the Year, Kaveer and Ashvir Singh for Knock Out Doubles Champions, Monty Slabbert for the highest points scorer and Knock Out Champion, Kaveer Singh for League Champ, Ossie Oosthuizen for Champion of Champion, and Kidd Rampersadh for Senior Angler of the Year.

The next fixture of the APL is the VME League Six, which commences on April 10 at Sandford.
