Vryheid Rugby Club – Running rugby leaves Newcastle trailing

Vryheid will go head to head with long time rivals, Richard's Bay, this weekend at Vryheid Rugby Club.

IN THE last trial match before this weekend’s home game against Richard’s Bay, Vryheid faced Newcastle on Saturday in an exhilarating display of running rugby.

Forwards, Wynand Pelser, Jacques Conradie and Wynand Stander, scored four of the 11 tries for Vryheid, with two of them scored by Pelser. Playmaker and flyhalf, Tiaan Kruger, kept the opposition’s backline guessing with his tactical kicking and ‘Sonny Bill’ offloads.

Vryheid’s backline contributed to the score with two tries each coming from Sticks Mbatha and Mo Mtshali, and the remaining tries from Chris Van Rooyen, Mxolisi Mbatha and Mornè Hattingh. Racking up 21 points in total, with an 81% successful kicking rate, Hattingh was also top scorer for the day.

At the final whistle, Vryheid left Newcastle trailing at 73 – 0.
