Futsal league heats up

NFL in conjunction with Cutting Edge Ministries will be hosting a soccer and volleyball tournament on April 3 at Paradise Sports Grounds.

The Newcastle Futsal League (NFL) continued last Sunday, with fans gathering at Paradise Sports Grounds to cheer on their favourite teams.

Barcelona and Dortmund kicked off the night’s games. Both teams pushed for the win, but it was Dortmund who came out on top by securing a win of two – nil over Barcelona.

Catalans faced Manchester United in the second match of the night.

The match proved to be a tough game, with both teams attempting to secure early goals. However, with a strong defence from both Manchester United and Catalans, the score board remained unchanged until Catalans managed to secure a goal and winning the match with a score of one – nil.

Africa FC then took on Galatasaray. After Africa suffered a three – nil loss to Celtic Rangers last week, the team was eager to win a match. Despite being continuously on the attack, Africa FC were unable to beat Galatasaray, and lost one-nil.

The most impressive game of the evening was between Bayern Munich and Esperanzi FC. Both teams came out with guns blazing, with attack after attack, keeping spectators on their feet. Both goal keepers seemed to be in top form, not allowing any goals. The match ended with a nil-all draw.

Manchester United had to play a second game against Newcastle United. Although team members were tired after their first match, Manchester played well in the first half, but it couldn’t keep up with the strong counter attacks from Newcastle United, and lost two – nil.

The highlight of the night was the match between Wimbledon FC, who is placed second on the log, and Celtic Rangers, who are placed third on the log. A win for Celtic Rangers would have meant the team would go into second place on the log.

The game proved to be tougher than anticipated, and both teams retained their positions with the match ending in a draw with a score of two – all.

Newcastle United now tops the log with 15 points, Wimbledon FC is second with 10 points and third is Celtic Rangers on nine points.

NFL in conjunction with Cutting Edge Ministries will be hosting a soccer and volleyball tournament on April 3 at Paradise Sports Grounds.

A total of R8 000 in cash and prizes will be up for grabs on the day.
