Karateka hone thier skills in preperation for NKZN Championships

JKA karateka trained hard for this weekend's NKZN Championships, which takes place at the Farmer's Hall on March 12.

A senior training session for Northern KwaZulu-Natal JKA was held last Saturday.

This was in preparation for the upcoming NKZN Championships, which take place at the Farmer’s Hall on March 12.

Over 170 entries have already been received.

NKZN JKA instructor, Johan Swart said the competition would feature affilate clubs from Dundee, Hluhluwe, Ladysmith, Newcastle, Paulpietersburg, Pongola, Volksrust and Vryheid.

Last Saturday’s training will set local karateka in good stead for this event.

“As always, kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (fighting) were addressed and worked on, during the two-hour training session, with special emphasis on applying these three disciplines. This was followed by a refresher course for judges and referees, specifically concentrating on JKA rules and regulations for the upcoming championships.”

Sensei Swart thanked all karateka, both those competing and those behind the scenes, who put in effort to make this coming weekend a success.

“Without you, this tournament would not be possible.”
