Golfers pay tribute to a golfing pioneer

Saturday’s Monthly Mug competition drew a field of 43 players with Joe Khumalo coming out tops in the A division with a net 70 followed by Kallie Roets with a net 71.
Joe also picked up the prize for Best Gross score when carding a 74. Willie Maritz took the honours in the B division, also with a net 70, and finishing in second place was Marc Bradbury with a net 72.
The Ladies B division was won by Debbie Catlett and Dolly Bradbury was an easy winner in the Ladies C division.
The following players were all able to record a 2 club and a share of the prize money: L. Shawe, W. Du Plessis and A. Mbatha on hole No.4, A. Raubenheimer on hole No.8 and R. Khumalo on hole No.16.
On Sunday, Dunpro held their annual Charlies Super Spar Oriental Golf which this year was held in honour of the late Farouk Adam who helped pioneer the Oriental day and did a lot for the development of other sport in the area. A plaque was also unveiled, in memory of Farouk, which will be put up at the golf club. (see back page).
The day attracted a field in excess of 80 players for the Individual Stableford format.
Walking away with the first prize on 39 points was local favourite, Shakeel Kalideen, on 39 points. Second was S Dlamini and third, T Mthethwa. A group of golf development players from Mandini on the north coast also competed for the huge prizes that were up for grabs.
Golfers are reminded that the Battlefields Tournament is just over a week away and the relevant entry forms are available from The Pro Shop.
