Rugby boys dominant against Richards Bay

"The first team battled in the scrum and lineouts," remarked Head Coach, Rich Verster, "but playing Richards Bay is always tough up front. The backline couldn't find their feet as well as they did in previous games, but we're satisfied with the win against Richards Bay for both our first and second teams."

VRYHEID Rugby Club kicked off the season hosting Richards Bay in the first game on home soil last Saturday.

The second team fielded a very strong side, captained by lock, Anton Van Der Walt. Tries were scored by Zakes Dlamini, Johan Herbst, Dylan Herbst and Jaco Davel, with Johan Herbst scoring an early penalty in the first half as well as three conversions.

Richards Bay was eventually overpowered by Vryheid’s strong second team and were left trailing 29 – 14 in favour of the hosts.

In an exhilarating battle between Richards Bay and Vryheid’s first teams, the men in maroon came out on top, triumphant over the visitors, with a final score of 18 – 14 in favour of the locals. Vryheid’s tries were scored by Mornè Hattingh, Chris Van Rooyen and Dylan Herbst, with Hattingh successful with a penalty early in the game.

“Vryheid Rugby Club would like to thank Golden Peak Spur for the Man of the Match vouchers and for the great service at the prematch burger night,” added Verster on behalf of the club.
