A busy weekend of bowls saw Ron and Alice Howe narrowly beat Fritz and Marie Botha in the semi-finals of the club Mixed Pairs, and then continue their good form to beat Joan and Frans Schoon in the finals.

A busy weekend of bowls saw Ron and Alice Howe narrowly beat Fritz and Marie Botha in the semi-finals of the club Mixed Pairs, and then continue their good form to beat Joan and Frans Schoon in the finals.
The club chicken competition, played on Saturday afternoon, was won by Erich Holm, Lou Roux, Michelle Steele and George Howell.
Volksrust Bowling Club hosted the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls (KZNCB) Mixed Pairs play-offs, and a display of excellent bowling by The Nest’s current Proteas coach and former Springbok, Theuns Fraser and his wife, Iris, resulted in an unbeaten run of five victories to deservedly take the title.
Sid Price and Noela Dreyer finished in second place.
The annual Peter Brown Men’s Fours Competition, hosted by Bergville Bowling Club, was won by the KZNCB A Provincial team of Phillip Scheepers, Douglas Steele, Mike Bowman and Jimmy Nel, who used the tournament as practice for the Provincials, being held in two weeks’ time.
