In what has been deemed a ‘dead rubber’, Breakwaters, Challengers and Stillwaters will face off in the final encounter of the league, in its first season under the Angling Professional League.
Consistent performance by Breakwaters has already ensured the crown in the league.
The current log standing sees the team in pole position on 28 points, followed by Challengers on 20 points and Stillwaters on 12.
Title contenders for the season are as follows:
Terrence Chetty – heaviest scaled fish for a 3,65 kilogramme fish caught in League Five; heaviest non-scaled fish for a 9kg catch during the Knock Out’s first round,
Ethan Burger – rare species for a kurper of 625 grams,
Kameshin Govender – Junior Angler of the Year with 20 points,
Tasha Boodhoo – Lady Angler of the Year with four points,
Dan Govender – Senior Angler of the Year with 61 points,
Kaveer Singh – Angler of the Year with 103 points.
Other title contenders within Breakwaters and Stillwaters are:
Vicky Bhooli – heaviest scaly for a 850g in Round Two of Champion of Champions,
Uthveer Buduram – heaviest eel for a catch of 1,75kg during League Three,
Ethan Burger – Junior Angler of the Year with 18 points,
Kaveer and Ashvir Singh – Knock Out Doubles Champions,
Monty Slabbert – Knock Out champion; highest points scorer with 38 points during Knock Out first round,
Kaveer Singh – League Champion with 71 points; most fish caught with 46,
Ossie Oosthuizen – Champion of Champions,
Kidd Rampersadh – Senior Angler of the Year with 29 points.
The internal singles knockout competition will see finals action, with Shane Mangaroo of Breakwaters versus Barge Ramlal of Stillwaters.
The next APL fixture is the Knock Out final between Breakwaters and Challengers.
This competition, taking place on April 24 at Richgate, is followed by the Grand Challenge on May 15, between these two rivals.
“This will bring an end to a very successful season, as the APL continues to grow and garner more public interest,” explained chairman, Matthew Shunmugam.
