Flexing up the competition

This Saturday, the Town Hall plays host to a competition from the Mzwakhe Qwabe Benefit Bodybuilding Club, founded by Mr Muscle himself.

In the sport of bodybuilding, a local legend is named Mzwakhe Qwabe.

For many years, ‘Mr Muscle’ has set the bar both literally and figuratively, enjoying success both locally and abroad.

Now Mzwakhe is using his legacy to foster the future of bodybuilding.

This Saturday, the Town Hall plays host to a competition from the Mzwakhe Qwabe Benefit Bodybuilding Club, founded by Mr Muscle himself.

“The competitions are about the 15-year journey of Mr Qwabe. He has received so many titles as the best bodybuilder in the Amajuba District, South Africa and beyond,” explained organisers, Cicilia Pieterse and Sipho Sithole.

Still a dominant force in the sport, Mzwakhe has invited all trained bodybuilders to compete.

“It has been a while since we hosted this kind of competition in the district,” said Mzwakhe.

Commenting on the decline in bodybuilders since 2012, Mzwakhe believes 2016 will be a great opportunity for locals to show off their sculpted talents.

Motivating these athletes to become active in the sport is another objective.

“Of the eight categories in the competition, all the division winners will compete for four spots at the best of the competition.”

These four winners will receive medals, trophies and supplements.

There are also three cash prizes of R5 000, R3 000 and R2 000, plus a potential sponsorship from Member of the Provincial Legislature, Makhosini Nkosi.

“We are expecting competitors from Durban, Johannesburg, areas of Mpumalanga and of course, locals.”
