A game for friends, dads and children
When it comes to the team, these guys stand together and always have each other’s backs

Team Chaos:
The name on its own says it all!
However, the “chaos” referred to here is what they like to unleash on their opponents. When it comes to the team, these guys stand together and always have each other’s backs. That being said, it seemed fitting to sit down and interview more than one player of the team.
Bryden Timm (33), Nick Moolman (26) and Abbygail Timm (9) started playing paintball about a year ago, with Andre Beukes following shortly after them.
“I’ve been playing for six months already,” Andre says proudly.
When asked why he enjoys playing paintball, Bryden’s response was simply: “I enjoy playing it because my daughters, Abbygail and Amy-Leigh (7), can play with me and learn how to tactically take on their opponents.”
Interestingly, paintball isn’t any of the interviewed players’ favourite sport. The favourites range from off-road biking to deep sea fishing to golf and even swimming.
A Ladysmith Gazette journalist had a good laugh when she asked what some of their hobbies are, as someone claimed that growing his beard and growing spicy chillies was his hobby, and another claimed he enjoys all sorts of stuff from online gaming to 4x4ing, and another even mentioned hunting in the mix.
When the guys and the second youngest team member were asked why they enjoy the sport so much, they basically said, “You get such an adrenaline rush and you feel so alive. It’s also a way to help you get rid of your frustration and is a very good stress reliever.”
Is paintball a painful sport? Yes, but evidently the adrenaline makes the pain tolerable. (Definitely not a game for those who have a low pain threshold)
Favourite places to play the fun sport? In the bush, because it allows for a more tactical viewpoint of the game and gives it a realistic feeling, says Bryden.
“I like playing on my grandparents’ farm and at the abandoned building in Golf Street, as it gives me the opportunity to play at the best of my abilities,” says Abbygail.
“Paintball City in Germiston is my favourite,” exclaims Nick… And Andre, well, Andre’s response was, “I like the abandoned building in Golf Street because it has lots of hiding places.”
So for all of you who are interested in getting into the sport, you’re probably thinking: So what is the cost implication of such a sport? Yes, the sport is expensive, but it all depends on the type of tournaments you take part in, such as bushball, speedball and other different types.
However, if you are lucky, like Abbygail, your dad can just buy everything for you!
The team usually plays at the Abandoned House in Golf Street, Why Waste, Windsor Dam, The Alamo and have even played in paintball tournaments in Boksburg and Germiston.
Team Chaos currently consists of about 15 to 20 team members who meet up regularly to splatter some paint on each other, as well as for matches with teams from Pietermaritzburg and Newcastle, and are currently building a paintball course about five kilometres outside of town, so keep an eye open for that!
