Bowlers roll for heritage

The Newcastle Lions Club annual golf day played out in scorching heat on Saturday.

NEWCASTLE – A fun-filled Heritage Day competition was hosted by the Newcastle Bowling Club on Saturday, with the majority of bowlers dressing up for the occasion.

Fritz Botha and Leonie Cilliers were the winners of prizes for best dressed male and female respectively.

An unusual scoring format was used for the bowls competition, and Fritz Botha, Erich Holm and Trevor Douthwaite emerged the winners.

The final of the In Drawn Pairs was also concluded, with Ron Howe and Simon Ball recording a comfortable victory over Fritz Zeniths and Michael McArthur.

The annual Presidents Cup will be hosted by Richards Bay Bowling Club this weekend, with the 2017 provincial teams to be announced at the conclusion of play.
