Local lass about to tackle her first marathon
She is attempting to complete the South Coast Marathon, which takes place on October 16
A week is all that stands between Zaheera Mulla and her first marathon. She is attempting to complete the South Coast Marathon, which takes place on October 16. “This will be my first marathon ever. I have done many half-marathons before, so I am quite excited but also feeling a little nervous.”
The marathon follows a beautiful route along the coast, with some challenging hills and stretches of flat road. “I have been training since Ramadan ended and completed the Mandela half-marathon in August, as well as the LAC Helpers’ night race last weekend, so I am hoping to finish the marathon comfortably.”
She says that the long weekend runs with her father, Dr Mulla, and fellow veteran Emnambithi Striders runners on the bypass have helped her with improving her pace, as well as provided a variety of training tips.
“They have been in the running game much longer than I have. They started running only after the age of 35 and I’m in my 20s, but they are fitter and stronger,” she says.
There are a few Emnambithi Striders runners who are participating in the marathon, who are hoping to qualify (sub five hours) for the Two Oceans Marathon to be held in April next year.
The Emnambithi Striders athletes are wished all the best for the race. They are sure to do our town proud!
