Hockey academy strikes the target

PARADISE – Two local legends are elevating hockey to new levels.

Seasoned players, Dean Bond and Blessing Khumalo have formally partnered to help children from ages six to 16 harness their potential on the pitch.

Their new venture is the New Age Hockey Academy.

According to Candice Bond, another stalwart of local hockey, the academy is also partnered with St Dominic’s Academy and has full use of its new AstroTurf.

“Our aim is to grow and improve hockey within our community, and also give children the opportunity to practice and learn new skills on AstroTurf.”

New Age will divide prospective students into three age groups on different days of the week, for lessons of about an hour.

Each group will also be divided, to provide more coverage.

Mrs Bond said the coaching programme was specifically designed for the different age groups, including activity and skill levels.

“We have an open day on Wednesday (5pm). This will be a free session to introduce ourselves to the public, show the children what they can expect and hopefully get a few sign-ups.”

Email newagehockey1@gmail.com to confirm your child’s attendance.

Also ensure they wear the proper attire for a hockey session: a hockey stick, running shoes or togs and shin pads.

“It’s guaranteed to be loads of fun for the children.”
