NFWAA anglers contest rising water levels

Anglers waded in chest high to land fish while others even swam underwater to try and release their catches from the snags below.

GLENCOE – The Natal Freshwater Angling Association (NFWAA) held its Top Parts League 5 at Sanford Islands. Angling proved very challenging as the sudden rise of the water levels at the dam resulted in anglers losing many fish and traces to underwater vegetation.

Anglers waded in chest high to land fish while others even swam underwater to try and release their catches from the snags below.

Catches were few which resulted in a speedy but anxious weigh-in.

Glencoe and Endumeni fished in E zone and Endumeni was beaten by 11 points to 10.

Docrats and Riverside shared the spoils in D zone and both clubs accumulated equal points.

ITEC Freespool came out victorious over Chelmsford with 45 and 20 points accumulated respectively.

The Top Parts R250 heaviest scaled fish was won by Keegan Naicker of Riverside, while the Top Parts R250 heaviest non-scaled catergory was won by Sean MacArthur of Chelmsford.

Faizal Parak of ITEC Freespool contributed 14 of his team’s 45 points and was undoubtedly the angler of the day.

This particular round of fixtures incorporated the Streetwire knockout semi-finals where Riverside and Docrats competed. Both teams ended on 12 points and the executive committee decided that both clubs would proceed to join ITEC Freespool in the knockout final.

This will be a historical event for NFWAA, because three clubs will compete in a knockout final.

The Streetwire R250 scaled and non-scaled winners were Keegan Naicker of Riverside and Nikesh Dookhi of Docrats respectively.

The next official NFWAA fixture will be held at Richgate Park on April 23.

Debutants to the NFWAA, Endumeni Angling Club, will be hosting an exciting open competition on April 1 and 2.

Prizes and cash in excess of R60 000 are up for grabs. This is not an April Fool’s Day joke!
