Daredevils dominate unbeatable Mr X in Vryheid Cricket Festival
In an unexpected turn of events, the previously unbeatable Mr X side, who have surely grown accustomed to dominating the cricket pitch by now, were beaten by the Middelburg Daredevils in the finals.
THERE was no fooling around over the weekend of April 1 as five teams converged on Vryheid Cricket Club for the highly anticipated cricket festival.
Dumbe, Middelburg Daredevils, Mr X, Gladiators and Mondlo took part in the festival which began on Friday night and played out until Sunday afternoon. In an unexpected turn of events, the previously unbeatable Mr X side, who have surely grown accustomed to dominating the cricket pitch by now, were beaten by the Middelburg Daredevils in the finals.

They managed to regain their composure on Sunday, however, beating the Afrimat Gladiators in the third place playoff.

A small prizegiving ceremony was held on Sunday afternoon after the concluding match and prize winners were awarded several prizes, sponsored by Vryheid Luremasters, who also sponsored the food for the weekend, to commemorate their efforts in the festival.

Clifford Dougherty and Charl Beneke shared the prize for ‘Best Batsman’, while Leon Zwane was awarded ‘Best Bowler’ for his contribution of nine wickets in four matches. Shane Patterson took the prize for ‘Best Fielder’ and Kyle Crous won the ‘Hat Trick’ prize. Kayla High won a prize for ‘Girl Cricketer’ and Wessel Vorster was awarded ‘Best Runner Between the Wickets’.

Two of the Middelburg players took part in an ‘Ice Bucket’ Challenge of sorts after the formalities of the afternoon had taken place, and were mercilessly drenched with icy water by their teammates, but not before nominating Mr X for the next one.
Vryheid Cricket Club would like to thank their sponsors for their support over the weekend, as well as throughout the season.
