Saddle up for equestrian action on home turf

NEWCASTLE – In December 2016, the KwaZulu-Natal Equestrian Tent Pegging Union hosted the Junior Gymkhana Championships in Newcastle, featuring seven provinces.

Competitors hoped to make various teams, and the following teams were ultimately selected:

The Boys’ and Girls’ National (Protea) teams, the President Boys and Girls teams, the under-14 boys and girls teams, and a development team, each consisting of five riders.

Of these, eight of the 35 selected tent peggers were from KZN.

The National teams leave for India on April 9 for an international test, teams which include Tisha Willemse and Tayla Steyn from KZN.

The remaining teams are all in action on April 8 at the Youth Festival at the Show Grounds, with riders and horses to arrive from Thursday onwards.

The community is invited to show its support in person.

“We wish them the very best of luck and congratulate them on their achievements,” said local equestrian organisers.
