The final event on the Natal Fresh Water Angling Association calendar was settled on the May 7, at Richgate Chelmsford Dam.
The event was the Ebees Express Top 5 competition which entitled the top five anglers of each affiliated club to compete for a grand cash prize of R3000. This was a much-anticipated event that anglers prepared for the whole season.
The winning club would take “bragging rights” into the upcoming season.
This event was set to sort out the men from the boys. The dam was once again disappointing and fish were hard to come by. Anglers had to work hard to put points on the board.

The heaviest fish of the day was landed by Morris Thompson of Docrats

At the end of the day it was a close affair and Riverside Angling Club, led by their determined and motivated captain, Vernon Naicker, captured the silverware and a cash prize of R3 000. Riverside ended the event on 15 points with Docrats not far behind on 13 points.
The ever-improving and dedicated new club, Endumeni, shocked many and were placed third on eight points. League champions for the season, Itec Freespool, had to settle for fourth place with five and following the pack last was Chelmsford on three points.
The heaviest fish of the day was landed by Morris Thompson of Docrats. His fish weighed 3.45kg which earned him R250 sponsored by Ebrahim Ismail of Ebees Express, Dundee. The anglers will now be taking a well-deserved break and will be looking forward to the next season which starts in August.
