APL gets ready for the big cast off
The presentation of trophies and prize money shall be done at the first league scheduled for August 20 at Richgate Park.
After a successful third season, the Angling Professional League (APL) is set to take angling to new heights with six clubs now affiliated for season 2017/2018 which includes Breakwaters, Stillwaters, Challengers, Ladysmith, Dannhauser and Glencoe Angling Clubs.
Reflecting on rather successful season, Breakwaters was crowned as the VME League Champions and AA Tours Grand Challenge Champions while newcomers, Ladysmith Angling Club crowned as the Transnat Knock Out Champion.
The season of the APL gets underway with the VME League One at Richgate Park on August 20 where all the affiliates will certainly want to make their mark. The AGM of the APL was held on July 8 where the new cabinet was elected: Matthew Shunmugam (President); Vishnu Govinder (Vice President); Ajen Goli (Secretary); Eugene Ramparsad (Treasurer); Liaquat Ahmed (Record Clerk); Anil Boodhoo (Assistance Record Clerk); Rafiq Hofesse (PRO); Saleem Abdool (Assistance PRO) and Monty Slabbert (Time Keeper).
The title holders of the season are Preetam Birbal (Challengers AC – heaviest carp of 3,650kg); Sikander Amod (Stillwaters AC – heaviest non-scaled fish of 6,9kg); Suvyn Budhoo (Stillwaters AC– rare species – a bass of 1,090kg – who wins himself R500 in this category); Talia Boodhoo (Junior Angler of the Year – Stillwaters); Veruschka Boodhoo (Stillwaters AC– Lady Angler of the Year); Iqbal Asraff (senior angler of the year – Challengers) and Ebrahim Mia (Challengers AC – Angler of Year with 75 pts); followed by Nadir Chrisenduth (Breakwaters AC on 64pts) and Mohamed Mia (Challengers AC on 52pts).
