Constructive day on the golf course
The biggest draw card of the day was the detailed layout of the golf estate, which offers improved safety (except for the odd golf ball flying round) and a more care-free lifestyle, but still does nothing to improve one’s golf

Last weekend started on Thursday when some of the class of 1971 arrived at the club for a warm-up session before the start of their official 47th anniversary weekend.
Not being a born and bred citizen of Ladysmith, I enquired from one of the locals that it was a bit strange, as most normal celebrations are held every 10 years. He politely informed me that the class of 71 were indeed a strange bunch and that when I saw who attended school in that infamous year, I would understand and it would all make sense… and it sure did.
I’m not sure what happened over the rest of the weekend, but they were certainly well behaved and displayed their more cultured and sensitive sides while listening to Jenny and Andre Hattingh perform their hit show ‘Forever Young’ at the club on Friday evening.
A late report on the reunion has been received and all it states is that everyone had a blast.
After a rain-soaked weekend which had earlier in the year postponed the Ladysmith Construction monthly mug, ground was broken on site and the construction of the mug commenced. There were a variety of building styles on display and to choose from, with some preferring the skyscraper (shot very high score), while others settled for the factory-like structure – for those who can manufacture a shot from nothing.
The odd player went for the block of flats design – where you block out the bad shots in an attempt to shoot a flat round. No interest was shown in the townhouses, as that demographic of customer had gone out of town and left their houses for the weekend. The semi-detached units drew a bit of interest from the player who gives the impression he is not there for the golf, but to have fun, when secretly he wants to win.
The biggest draw card of the day was the detailed layout of the golf estate, which offers improved safety (except for the odd golf ball flying round) and a more care-free lifestyle, but still does nothing to improve one’s golf.
Bryan and Brett Cuninghame of Ladysmith Construction are master builders and can make your lifestyle dream a reality with any of the above designs. The players with the best results were, in the A Division, Corné Davel with a solid 68 nett, Ash Ranoo winning the B Division with a staggering 64 nett and Cassie Rautenbach the C Division on a 71 nett. Nearest the completion date on time (or pin) were Corné on the 3rd and 11th, Jaqui Porrill at the 8th and Leon Petersen at the 12th. There were five two-club winners in Leon, Corné (x2) and Jaqui.
Patrick Pieterse won the IPS, Charles Elworthy the best gross and Trevor Jacobs the sucker.

The National Braai & Golf Day took place on Monday, with a number of players enjoying a friendly game of golf and a bring ‘n braai afterwards. The winners were George Ashi, Tim Hume, Chris Nel and Murray Hume, who took the count-out from Dries Slabbert, Willie Erasmus, Dolf Pollard and Patrick Pieterse.
Nearest the pin winners were Murray, Tim, Dries and Steve Dixon. The two-club winners were Leon Petersen, Roy Gibbons, Murray and Kurt Swoboda.
Thanks to Bryan and Brett of Ladysmith Construction for their continued sponsorship of the mug, and to Roy for prizes on Monday and to all the players who turned up to play. The bowls raffle was won by Belinda Hanlon, and keep your eyes peeled for the bowls sections famous T-Bone Steak evening on October 20.
