Soccer tourney has grannies kicking it

The development of sport in Bhekuzulu has been in progression since 2015, and recently culminated in a multi-team tournament.

AbaQulusi FC won the under-13 division (photograph submitted).

According to organisers of this tournament, among participants were five grandmothers, who actively took part in the matches and benefited greatly from the exercise sport offers.

A total of 21 teams competed, including six under-21 teams, eight u-13 teams and six u-16 teams.
The Lakeside Warriors Football Club clinched victory in the u-21 division, while the old location’s AbaQulusi FC took top spot in the u-13 division. Liverpool FC, from the new location, finished top in the u-16 division.

Esihle Biyela was announced as the Player of the Tournament, and received the famed ‘golden boot’, while the winning teams received a trophy, 22 individual medals and a R1 000 prize each for their efforts.
